Group of the Year for Organising Social Events for Older People
A new award category in the Community Achievment Awards was won by Doohamlet Day Care. The awards recognised the group's achievements as follows; "[Doohamlet Daycare] organises activities on a fortnightly basis for older people within their community. These activities include serving lunch and organising social activities such as dancing and skittles. For older people who are unable to come to the local Community Centre for the fortnightly activities, the group delivers meals on wheels to them. The group also takes the older people on mini breaks throughout the year and on an annual outing each summer. The efforts of this groups helps reduce feelings of isolation and exclusion and makes older people feel included by enabling them to build up a network of friends".
